How to set up a sync folder in the Desktop App
A sync folder is a pair: one folder on your computer, one in your workspace. Once it is running, anything you drop in locally turns up in the workspace and on every other device you are signed in to.
- 1 Open the Sync page in the desktop app and choose Add sync folder.
- 2 Pick the cloud side: the whole workspace, or a single folder.
- 3 Pick the folder on this computer, by browsing or using one of the shortcuts.
- 4 Choose a sync mode; Full Sync mirrors both sides, deletions included.
- 5 Choose Start syncing, then watch the first pass under Activity.
So, this is the desktop app, on the Sync page. Nothing here yet. A sync folder is really just a pair. One folder on your computer, one folder in your workspace.
Add sync folder. First, the cloud side. You can take the whole workspace, or just one folder. I’ll pick Client Deliverables.
Then the folder on this computer. Browse to it, or use one of the shortcuts. Desktop, Documents, Pictures, Downloads.
Next, how the two should stay in step. There are five modes. Full Sync mirrors both sides, deletions included. Push and Pull each go one way only. And the two safe ones, Protect and Upload, and Save to Device, never delete anything. I’ll take Full Sync.
Advanced is already sensible. node modules, dot git, dot env, dot D S Store. Nothing you’d want in the cloud anyway. You can add your own patterns here too.
Start syncing. And it’s off. The first pass uploads what’s already in the folder, and you can watch it happen under Activity.
Now the real test. Drop a file into that folder on your computer. A few seconds later, there it is in your workspace, and on every other device you’ve signed in to.
