Fair use on the Free plan
Last updated: October 25, 2026
The Free plan is permanent: 5 GB of storage with no credit card, no expiry, and no countdown. You can grow it by up to 25 GB more through referrals - 5 GB per referral, for up to 5 referrals.
Free includes the apps, REST API, WebDAV, S3, SFTP, share links and optional Vault. All plans offer the same 46 storage locations. Free has lower allowances and shorter history; paid plans add workspace branding, family storage sharing and live chat. See the plan comparison for the full differences.
SSO and SAML, a signed data processing agreement, a named account manager and private nodes require an Enterprise agreement. API and protocol allowances come from the active plan catalog and explicit credential settings. The defaults below describe the published source; they are not a live reading of your account's limits.
Two rules apply to everything on this page. Fair-use limits pause rather than throttle: once an allowance is used up, further requests are refused and share links answer with a temporary busy page until the window resets. A transfer already in flight is always allowed to finish, and nothing is ever deleted or revoked. Retention windows are scheduled cleanup on the fixed timelines below: nothing is ever removed mid-action, and the current version of your files is never touched by any of it.

API and protocol access
REST, WebDAV, S3 and SFTP are available on Free. The source defaults have no plan request-rate or concurrency ceiling. REST applies configured plan ceilings and explicit credential limits. WebDAV, S3 and SFTP skip the plan's request and concurrency ceilings, but still enforce explicit key or role restrictions.
Daily credential egress is separate. The Free source fallback is 100 GiB per day; the active plan catalog and stricter credential settings determine your effective allowance. Paid source defaults have no plan egress ceiling. Share-link downloads use the separate 10 GB daily Free allowance below. An exhausted allowance pauses further downloads until its daily window resets; it does not delete files.
Abuse protections apply on every plan: REST allows up to 300 requests per minute per user and 600 per IP; S3 and WebDAV allow up to 600 per user and 1,200 per IP. These are safety ceilings, not billable quotas. Other configured limits may be tighter. Upload methods also have their own constraints: WebDAV has a 100 MB per-request upload limit, so use a chunked upload method for larger files. See the developer reference for your protocol.
A Free account can hold up to 3 API keys and 3 webhook endpoints in total. Existing keys and endpoints keep working at the cap - creating another one just asks you to delete one first or upgrade. Paid plans allow 20 keys and 16 webhook endpoints per workspace.
Workspaces and members
A Free account can own up to 3 workspaces, each with up to 5 members including you. Being a member of someone else's workspace is never capped, and does not count against your own 3. Paid plans have no limit on either.
Reaching a cap never affects an existing workspace or removes anyone. Creating the fourth workspace, or inviting a sixth member, is what asks you to upgrade.
Share links
A Free account serves up to 10 GB of share-link downloads per day, counted across all of its links. When that is reached, the links answer with a temporary busy page until the day rolls over.
A Free account can also have up to 5 active share links at a time, and each link lives for up to 7 days. A longer or never-expiring request is simply set to 7 days, and the link's real expiry is always shown when it is created. Once a link expires or is revoked it stops counting toward the 5, so the cap frees itself as links age out.
Nothing is deleted and no link is disabled early: the files stay exactly where they are, live links stay valid, and visitors can simply come back later. Paid plans have unlimited links, any expiry, and no metering.
Version history
Version history and rollback work on every plan. On Free, versions are kept for 7 days: versions older than that are removed by scheduled cleanup. This only ever touches old versions - the current version of a file is never affected, and you can roll back to any version inside the window at any time.
Paid plans keep versions with no time limit. Separately from that window, every plan keeps the newest 10 versions of a file by default and drops the oldest beyond it. A workspace admin can raise, lower or remove that cap in workspace settings, and it applies before the retention window does. Stored versions count toward your storage quota.
Downgrading to Free does not delete anything at the moment you downgrade - the 7-day window simply starts applying to versions from then on, and the newest version of every file is always kept.
Trash
Deleted files go to trash on every plan, and you can restore them from there. On Free, files in trash are permanently removed 7 days after you delete them; on paid plans it is 30 days.
This applies only to files you have already deleted. Nothing outside the trash is ever cleaned up.
Activity history
The activity feed and audit logs are on every plan. Free keeps 7 days of history; paid plans keep long-term history of 400 days. The feature itself is identical - only how far back it reaches differs.
What fair use is not
It is not a feature paywall. No product feature is switched off on Free, and none of the limits above changes what you can do - only how much of it you can do in a day, how many people you can do it with, and how far back history reaches.
It is not something everyday use runs into. If you are backing up a laptop, syncing a phone, or sharing files with people you know, you are unlikely to notice any of these limits.
And it is never surprise data loss. Paused allowances resume on their own when the window resets, and cleanup follows the fixed windows published on this page - nothing else.
If you hit these limits regularly - automation, high-volume distribution, or serving files to a wide audience - you are using dosya.dev as infrastructure, and the paid plans are priced for exactly that, starting at $3.99 a month for 100 GB.
