AI assistants integration

Ask your AI assistant about your files.

Connect dosya.dev to Claude, ChatGPT or any app that speaks MCP, and your assistant can find and read the files in the workspace you choose. Read-only, on every plan.

A few of the AI apps that support MCP. Whether an app can add a custom connector depends on the app and your plan with it.

Ask the way you would ask a colleague

list_folder + read_file

“Summarise the contract in my Contracts folder.”

Your assistant finds the folder, reads the PDF and gives you the terms, dates and obligations in a few lines.

search_files + read_file

“Compare these two proposals and tell me which is cheaper.”

Both documents are read side by side, so the answer can quote prices and scope from each.

search_files + read_file

“Find the invoice from Ferraro Joinery and tell me the total.”

A name search finds the file, and the total comes from the invoice itself, Excel sheet or PDF alike.

get_file_info + read_file

“What changed between version 2 and 3 of the brief?”

When a file has earlier versions in dosya, your assistant can read any two of them and walk you through the differences.

What your assistant can do

Nine tools, all of them read-only. These are the exact names your assistant shows when it asks to use one.

Find

Get around the workspace you connected.

  • list_workspaces Tells your assistant which workspace this connection can open: the one you picked when you allowed it.
  • list_folder Lists what is inside a folder, a page at a time when the folder is large.
  • search_files Finds files and folders by name, optionally narrowed to one type such as PDF or DOCX. It matches names only.
  • get_file_info Checks a file's name, size, type, version and folder without opening it.
Read

Open documents and work with what they say.

  • read_file Reads a file as text, including PDFs, Word and Excel files, presentations and images. Long documents come back in parts, and older versions can be read too.
  • search A name search that returns each match with a title and a link, the form ChatGPT's research features ask for.
  • fetch Opens a document that search found, with a link back to it so answers can cite their source.
Share and account

Hand a file back to you, or check your space.

  • get_download_link Makes a short-lived download link for the original file, for when you want the file itself. Anyone holding the link can use it until it expires.
  • get_account_info Shows your plan and how much storage is used and free. It lists no files.
Getting started

Connect it in a minute

Every app takes the same address. You sign in on dosya's own page, choose the one workspace this connection may open, and approve it.

https://mcp.dosya.dev/mcp

Claude

  1. 1 Open Settings, then Connectors, and choose Add custom connector.
  2. 2 Paste the connector URL and add it.
  3. 3 Sign in to dosya when asked, pick a workspace, and choose Allow.

ChatGPT

  1. 1 In Settings, turn on developer mode (it sits under the connectors or apps section).
  2. 2 Create a custom connector and paste the connector URL.
  3. 3 Sign in to dosya when asked, pick a workspace, and choose Allow.

Developer mode is offered on some ChatGPT plans and not others.

Any MCP client

  1. 1 Add a remote MCP server in your app's settings and paste the connector URL.
  2. 2 Your app opens dosya's sign-in page. Sign in, pick a workspace, and choose Allow.

Sign-in uses OAuth, so there is no API key to copy or keep safe.

You decide what it can see

Read-only

Your assistant can look and read. It cannot edit, move, rename or delete anything.

One workspace

Each connection opens only the workspace you picked when you allowed it. Your other workspaces stay out of reach.

Yours to switch off

See and remove every connected app in Profile › Connected AI apps. Access stops immediately.

Good to know

Can my assistant change or delete my files?

No. Every tool is read-only. Your assistant can look, read and make a download link, and nothing it does through this connector can edit, move, rename or delete a file.

Which files can it see?

Only the workspace you pick when you allow the connection. Each connection gets one workspace. To use another, add the connector again and pick that one.

Can it read scanned PDFs?

Not yet. A PDF that is only a picture of a page, with no text layer, cannot be read as text today. PDFs exported from a word processor or with selectable text work.

What about my Vault?

Vault files are end-to-end encrypted on your own devices and never leave them unencrypted, so no AI assistant can open them through this connector. That is the point of the Vault.

How do I disconnect?

Open Profile, then Connected AI apps, in the dosya web app and remove the connection. Access stops immediately. You can also remove the connector from your assistant's own settings.

Does it cost anything?

No. The connector works on every dosya plan, including the free one. On Free, each connection can make up to 100 file reads and 25 image reads a day (a long document counts once per part); paid plans have no daily limit. Your AI assistant's own plan decides whether it lets you add custom connectors.

Bring your files to the conversation

Copy the address, paste it into your assistant, and ask about the files you already keep in dosya.dev. For no-code automations there is also Zapier, and for code, the public API.
